Tree of Hope Association, based right here in Rockville, Maryland, was founded in 2014 by a courageous group of individuals in recovery-originally under the name Avery Road Alumni Association. What began with a handful of volunteers and a deep desire to give back has grown into a statewide movement that continues to change lives. Our name--Tree of Hope--was inspired by a powerful symbol: a tree standing proudly behind the Avery Road Treatment Center, where clients would toss their shoes into its branches, symbolizing a break from the past and new beginning rooted in hope. In 2015, we officially received our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, and the journey since then has been nothing short of extraordinary. From holding small community coffee houses to raise funds, to becoming a vital resource across Maryland, we have now trained over 700 peer support specialists and served thousands of individuals through one-on-one peer support and peer-led groups.
