About

The Montgomery Coalition for Adult English Literacy (MCAEL) is a nonprofit organization that supports and strengthens English language learning programs for adults in Montgomery County. An estimated 139,000 adults in the county speak English less than ''very well.'' MCAEL works to ensure they have access to the classes and support they need to thrive. Through a network of 60 partner programs, MCAEL helps approximately 17,000 adults each year improve their English skills -- empowering them to succeed as parents, workers, and community members. MCAEL strengthens this network by providing capacity-building support, including grants to local programs, training and professional development for instructors, and resources to improve teaching quality and learner outcomes. By investing in the people and programs that serve adult learners, MCAEL helps ensure that English classes are accessible, effective, and responsive to community needs.
