DESCRIPTION:In this fast-paced\, achievement oriented world\, it's tough to parent and to find the type of environment that is best for your child. This lunch and learn will help you to sort through parenting challenges surrounding "fit\," including parent background\, the push for prestige\, social media culture and how parents are afraid to speak about the challenges their children face. We will address the implications of not addressing the issue of fit and practical solutions to guide your child to their highest potential.\n\n**Lunch will be Provided**\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\nDr. Linda Fleming McGhee is a clinical psychologist who speaks and writes on mental health and education. She received her doctorate from George Washington University. Prior to that she received a law degree from GWU and practiced law.\n\nDr. McGhee served as the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center at the Landon School. Prior to that\, she served several years as a psychologist there. She has served on a school board and worked at several other schools specializing in learning disorders (Kingsbury and Chelsea). She has also served as an adjunct professor at George Washington\, Trinity\, the Chicago School of Professional Psychology\, and the Washington School of Psychiatry. Dr. McGhee served on the Board of the Kingsbury School and she is currently the Chair of the Education Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of the Maryland Psychological Association.\n\nDr. McGhee is the founder of McGhee & Associates in Chevy Chase Maryland. She specializes in adolescents and assessment for learning differences. Dr. McGhee has written for the Washington Post and has been quoted widely in the New York Times\, the Huffington Post and Grown and Flown. She speaks nationally on anxiety\, race\, education and the availability of resources. Recently\, Dr. McGhee speaks at colleges on behalf of the Steve Fund\, an organization devoted to mental health for students of color. Her newest venture is the Son Rises\, a movement to support families of black males. She regularly appears on television and radio on a variety of topics.
